More than 35,000 people in Smith County are struggling to break out of poverty. That's one person out of six, or one child out of four. We've reached a point in time where if we hope to foster human dignity and tap the potential of those we serve, we must work together and trust in each others' strengths. No single organization - government, social service, church or business - can create large-scale, lasting social change alone. It's time for collective action.
The 2018 ETHNN Summit: A Call to Action is a one-day conference focusing on poverty education and awareness, and spotlighting the collective impact work currently in progress in East Texas; noted Texas economist Dr. Ray Perryman will be the keynote speaker. Breakout sessions will bring local experts to the table to discuss collective action's impact on our neighbors in the areas of housing, employment, education, health care and transportation.

Dr. Perryman is President and CEO of of The Perryman Group, an economic research and analysis firm based in Waco, Texas. His firm has served the needs of more than 2,000 clients ranging from major corporations to small startups and from local communities to the federal government. Dr. Perryman is very familiar with Tyler/East Texas and is a popular speaker at Tyler economic development events. He will share his research on the fiscal consequences of poverty in our community.
